Sapphire, the birthstone of September is a precious gemstone along with diamonds, emeralds, and rubies. The name sapphire comes from the Latin “sapphirus” and Greek “sappheiros” meaning blue stone. This royal gem is known for its rich blue color but sapphires are actually available in a rainbow of hues. Kings wore sapphires around their necks as a powerful defense from harm. They preserved the wearer from envy and attracted divine favor. The blue sapphire represents peace, serenity, faith, wisdom, loyalty and nobility.
